In Praise of Prosperity

Whatever may be said in praise of poverty, the fact remains that it is not possible to live a really complete or successful life unless one is rich. – Wallace D. Wattles

Wallace Wattles wrote that passage in his classic book called The Science of Getting Rich, first published in 1910. After decades of study in the field of wealth creation, prosperity consciousness, positive thinking, spirituality and other areas of personal development, I was given this short laser-focused book by a very close friend in 2004 as a gift.

This book inspired the basis for what I now teach relating to the Law of Attraction. In fact, it was also what inspired Rhonda Byrne to create her mega-smash hit movie, The Secret.

I have had several people over the years make comments to me like: Why do you think he made it all about getting “rich?” Why is it just the material things that are so important? First, Mr. Wattles’ true message isn’t one simply of financial or material prosperity.

It’s about creation. Creating whatever you want in your life.

But while we’re on the subject…What is it about money that creates so much resistance? This is something that seems to automatically come up for many people around the mere mention of being rich or being wealthy or being prosperous? For the answer we must revert back to the programming we received from parents and teachers, and the perpetual barrage through the media. Many of us have adopted the internal subconscious message that money is a bad thing.

So, I refer you back to the quote: “it is not possible to live a really complete or successful life unless one is rich.”

At this current stage of human evolution, our entire civilized society is using money as our primary medium of exchange. It isn’t rocks or bones, it is cold hard cash. Money is certainly not the only important thing. Money can’t buy everything or do everything but it can certainly help make the journey more comfortable. I love the quote from Sophie Tucker and have experienced this myself: “I’ve been rich and I’ve been poor, and rich is definitely better.”

In the quote I shared with you, Mr. Wattles is telling us that we cannot rise to our highest levels of achievement or soul development unless we have lots of stuff to play with, to use and to experience. And all of that takes money; simply because that is the way our modern society is structured, period. No judgment there, it just it what it is. So whether you generate the riches or whether they come from another source and you have access, it still takes money to have fun, exciting, expansive experiences.

Money itself is not good or bad, happy or sad; again, it is simply our medium of exchange. It is how we acquire or experience our stuff, whether that stuff is food, or shelter, or transportation, the basic essentials, or for entertainment, or whether that “stuff” is the personal satisfaction that we receive from giving to others. It is our own internal programming and perception about money that becomes the inherent problem. For many of us, if not most of us, there have been negative messages attached to money since the minute we left the warmth and safety of our mother’s womb.

What messages did you hear about money when you were growing up? Money doesn’t grow on trees? Rich people are greedy? We can’t afford it? Do you know how hard I had to work to buy you that? (Or to feed you? Or to keep a roof over your head?) Money is the root of all evil?

So, it is any wonder that we have these mixed-up views about money? And you know, it’s really not even your fault. Some of this junk just got stuck in your head, without you even realizing it.

There is also nothing about money that is not spiritual. Money is just energy; a medium of exchange; something we trade for value. There is nothing anywhere in any spiritual texts I know of that suggests money is something to be despised or treated with contempt.

The truth is that money can do a great many things. Money can change the world in the hands of the right people. Are you one of the right people? You aren’t one of the greedy and untrustworthy types, are you? Of course not! So, why punish yourself with all these negative thoughts about money that serve no purpose but to keep wealth away from you, which in turn keeps it in the hands of others who may not have such worthy ideals? The truth is that you deserve to be rich because you, and I, and others like us will use the money for good, spread the wealth among the needy and create a positive effect on the world.

We simply cannot do our greatest work in the world without having a lot of money, at least not in a practical manner that really helps the most people. We rise to our highest soul level and satisfaction by helping others, by being in service and by experiencing a great many things. All this requires money. Once again, that is simply because of the nature and structure of our society. Until that situation changes, this is the system within which we have to work.

It is completely your choice what you want your Ultimate Dream Life to look like. I’m not here to tell you how to live…not in any way. If you are content living in a two-bedroom condo while you use the rest of your millions to save the world, it’s YOUR choice. If you prefer a lavish 10,000 square foot mansion with multiple expensive sports cars and a private chef, masseuse, chauffer-driven limousine and a private jet, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that either. Go for it! Not only is it okay, you deserve to have it.

There is plenty of abundance available and plenty to go around. It may not seem like it is available to everyone right now, but the best thing you can do for yourself and others is to learn how the Law of Attraction can really be directed to your desires and teach others to do the same. There is a big difference between being self-centered, that is, keeping your “self” centered, and being selfish.

Imagine what amazing results we can achieve when large groups of globally-conscious, like-minded individuals working together as one infinitely prosperous and creative unit are directing the path of this planet.

It is up to us to decide and direct that energy of the Law of Attraction toward that healthy, happy world that we can all envision.

Start right now by visualizing yourself as a worthy and empowered person whose intention is only to raise the vibration of all those who come into contact with you.

The journey begins with the mastery of the Law of Attraction and shifting your life toward this new system you’ve been learning. That shift begins with you. There is nothing outside you that is going to change things FOR you. The change — this shift I’m talking about is inside you. It IS you! We can give you some awesome tools but ultimately you and only you have the power!
